Military Exemption

There are special driver’s licensing rules if you are on active duty in the military and stationed outside of Nebraska. These rules also apply to family members of active duty military personnel. If your driver’s license was valid on or after August 27, 1971, your driver’s license is valid while you are on active duty and for 60 days following discharge or your return to Nebraska, whichever is later.

If you qualify for the military exemption, you may request a Form 07-08 from the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles. Form 07-08 is a small card that you will attach to your driver’s license.

To request a 07-08 card, send a signed and dated request*, a readable photocopy of your Nebraska driver’s license and current military orders to the following address:

Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles
Driver and Vehicle Records Division
Attn: Military Exemption
P.O. Box 94789
Lincoln, NE 68509-4789

*Be sure to include your current address so that the Form 07-08 can be sent to you following processing of your request.

If you wish to renew your Nebraska driver's license, please refer to Out-of-State Renewals.

Questions regarding the Military Exemption may be addressed to Email or by contacting this office at 402.471-3918.
